Weddings

You may be wondering why I have a wedding picture of me and my dad! Well, with summer around the corner, many weddings take place. However Bob and I got married in February...the dead of winter. We were living in Chicago at the time, but my wedding was to take place in Rockford. In 1967 there was a huge snowstorm and we would have missed our own wedding except it was the following weekend.

I sure was young WAY back then. Since my father died in 1983, this picture is very special to me. Did you all realize that out of his seven daughters, I was the first to get married.

Just enjoy the photo. I'm proud to say that my mother made my wedding dress. I still have it but sorry to say that I cannot fit into...yet. Maybe someday.

Think Spring Part 1

Remember when we had snow off and on during March and April? Well, sometime in March I finally had had ENOUGH and put my garden flag out which said 'THINK SPRING'. Some days it really looked strange surrounded with that white stuff we call snow. Today I went outside and in our yard took some real evidences of SPRING! Isn't this a beautiful forsythia bush? What early blooming yellow flowers.

Another wonderful color of yellow are these beautiful daffodils...our neighbor next door had these coming up in his yard.
Last but not least...the crocuses are starting to shoot forth. May we all enjoy the beauty of Spring flowers, blooming trees and bushes.

Think Spring Part 2

To continue with the subject of "THINK SPRING" last year Gary planted a Blazing Orange Maple Tree. What beautiful buds they have on them this year. I also must let you know, if you don't already know that Gary love to stay active. When he lived alone, he was always helping the elderly. Whatever they needed done to their yard or home, he was always available.
This year I even went with him to help out with Lucille's yard. We had about 12 bags of yard waste.
Gary never expects to be paid...and if someone does want to pay him, he really doesn't want much. However, Lucille was very generous to us and now I also have some spending money.

I'm Back In The Saddle Again!

Well, Actually I'm back in my car again. It's a really long story! Since March 10 to April 14, my car has been at the dealership. Being homebound is NOT a great thing. Let me just fill you all in with my wonderful experience of: 'MY BATTERY WENT DEAD AGAIN!"

In June 2005, I purchased a brand new Buick Lacrosse. Since I was going to retire, I wanted a car that I could rely on. In January 2006 when I went to start my car, it was deader than a door nail. Back and forth to the dealer...kept saying nothing was wrong with the battery. Finally they said that the next time it didn't start they would come and get it. And that's what happened. That January they just replaced the battery.

Let move on to November and December of 2007...You guessed it! The battery went dead AGAIN! To make the story short...over Christmas they replaced the radio. They thought there was a short in the radio causing the battery to go dead.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE! January 21..battery went dead. Dealership couldn't find anything and the car started every day for them. Picked up car January 28. February 2, battery dead again. (I think it's time for a funeral) February 5, they picked up our car. On February 28, we got it back again...nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Am I boring you with this story...sorry. On March 9th ...you already know..battery dead again. From March 9th to the present it has been at the dealership.
On February 4, I talked with the owner and told him I just wanted my car replaced. He was willing to do that. When I talked to GM service office, they said to give him 30 days to find a replacement. I however being so NICE gave him around 50 some days. (He has had cancer and been the hospital) But at the same time his son also works with him and was never told about my car till about 2 weeks ago. FINALLY when I talked to his son...he said to me, "Give me 3-4 days and I will see if I can find a replacment for you." 3 to 4 DAYS and I've been waiting over 50! Well between the dealership and GM Service...I got a call from the son saying "We found a replacement for you." The only thing I didn't get was my heated seats...but listen to this I got CHROME WHEELS. (Nothing that really excited me...I would rather have my heated seats) He did give me a 12month/12,000 miles Bumper to Bumper which I thought was GREAT. So Gary and I checked it out...took it for a drive...checked it inside and out. We decided to go with this replacement.
While signing all the paperwork, we mentioned that the problem of the battery going dead was never really resolved. The son made the comment, "You sure you don't have some kind of magnetic force in your garage?" "Come winter and my battery goes dead in this car,...maybe." was my reply. "Please don't go there." was his reply. Time will tell.

May this been the end of this story. THANKS GOES OUT TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE PRAYED FOR US. MY biggest prayer warrior of course is my mother. When I phoned her today she said "I knew it was you and that you would have a replacement" I didn't even know that. Thanks to family members and friends who helped me thru this trial. People who picked me up and took me places...like my wonderful daughter Ann-Marie. And of course Praise to God who always grants grace in all our trial.

A Little Bit of This. A Little Bit of that.

Congratulations to Paul and Kara's son Adam! The third egg from the left is Adams. It made the Sunday paper. It's always fun to see or read whenever a family member has their name in the paper. Art runs in our family and I have to say that Adam was very artistic in his use of many colors.

This morning is Thursday, March 27, 2008. Yesterday the weather was in the high 50's. Today it is snowing..but as you can see the Robin is here to stay. I for one will be very glad when Spring is here to stay..not this warm sunny day, then snow...off and on days. COME ON SPRING...STAY.
Tuesday Gary had to go to JUDY DUDY..AKA JURY DUTY! Thanks Danielle, I think we all will forever call it JUDY DUDY. He was chosen as one of the twelve. Last night he did not get home till almost 9:00 p.m. I guess they had to reach a decision before they left. What is so funny for me is that the first day he came home and said, "I got a check for $10.00. I think I will call it my March Mad Money!" Later in the evening he informed me that he had to pay for parking...$2.25. Now that reduces his income. Let just add the gas to that also. It's around 14 miles to the court house and then of course, he does have to come home. So last night he also came home with a $10.00 check. With his duty done, I think that the March Mad Money should end up about $9.00...oh, with tithe, he now has $7.00. I wonder what he will do with all that money? He did say he did enjoy it and they did give him a certificate. It certainly it a privilege for us as citizen...for I know it is not for the money.

Celebrations!

Last night (Thursday, March 20, 2008) I took a beautiful picture of the sunset from our front window. This morning (Friday, March 21, 2008) I took the picture below. Yes, we are having a snow storm today.
Plans for today have been changed due to this storm. Gary and I were to drive to Dixon to celebrate our granddaughter's Brigitte 6th birthday, which will actually be on Tuesday. Since their family is leaving Sunday, they had decided to celebrate it today. So we will wait till they come back and celebrate her birthday another day.
BRIGITTE & ANDREW I will celebrate my sister Kathleen Spring's birthday, who would have been 52 years old today! There are many things to celebrate about her. She had that wonderful gift of hospitality! Whenever any family members came to town, it was Kathy who organized a family get-together. Another great thing about my sister, is her gift of gardening. So many beautiful flowers in her yard...and she was always adding more each year. Below is a picture of me, my newphew's wife Kara and my sister Kathy. God took Kathy home July 29, 2001. She was only 45 years old. She has left a HUGH HOLE IN OUR HEARTS.

The picture above shows us taking plants from Kathy's flower garden to plant in our own flower gardens.

The most important things that many of us will celebrate is the death of our Lord. Yes today is also Good Friday. And we also celebrate what the angel at the empty tomb said to the two Marys: "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, .." And I look forward to the day when I will celebrate seeing those who have gone before me...like my wonderful sister Kathy.

Baby Dawson

Gary and I wanted to see this wonderful new addition to our family. When we got to the hospital and finally located Cari's room, we found Dave stretched out on the bed and Cari sitting up. Wow, now here's the true picture of a new father! Just kidding because Dave pointed to this other bed that did not look very comfortable. Then I understood why he was trying to get rest on the bed Cari had. Cari looked great and of course both of them very happy. Dave took Gary & I down to see Dawson. "He look just like my dad!" Dave said. "He's got his nose and cheecks."
As you can see little Dawson is in an incubator and will be in the hospital for about two more weeks. He arrived a little earlier than had been expected.
When Dave took us to see Dawson, you should have seen his face...he is one proud DAD! Both Cari and he will make wonderful parents.

Congratulations on the birth of your first child...Dawson Bruce. Dave did not want to have David the second, so when he read the name Dawson meant son of David, that would take care of the problem.
