Treasure Your Husband, Treasure Your Dad

Looking back on our trip to Door County, there were some serious moments.

Of the four of us, three of us had lost our husbands..thus we were widows.(I am the only one of the three that had re-married.) Both Jackie and my husband were taken suddenly. Betty's husband died of cancer. Jackie was only 47 years old when Herman was killed in a car piledup on a foggy morning in another state. (their daughter was in the car with him). I was only 54 years old (almost 55) when Bob died of a heart attack. Our daughter was a Junior at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. I would call Jackie many times when I felt that I would not get thru another day. She has always been a blessing to me. I don't know Betty age, but she's around our age....Herman has been gone for 12 years, my Bob has been gone for 8 years, and Betty's Bob (good name) has only been gone for 5 years.

You may have heard me tellyou the story of Pastor Larson saying he thought I would be over Bob's death in 6 months...until he had read that it takes about 6 to 8 YEARS to re-enter life as we had known it. All I know from experience that it is just very PAINFUL!

My sister Jan, asked us a simply question..."How did we think of widows when we were married?" OUCH ..for me I really didn't think of them at all except as old ladies without a husband. And when I was a young married lady, I didn't know any young widow, but that's not the point. I just didn't think of them and that's the sad point.

SOOOO, Let's all ask God to show us how to move out of our comfort zone and invade the lives of widows with real love and concern.

I'll end my blog with the words I started with..Treasure Your Husband, Treasure Your Dad! For the three of us the husband of our youth our in heaven, (the best place to be). Our children do not have a Dad to call when they want to just talk, ask for advise, or just hear their voice. TREASURE TREASURE and then again TREASURE

The BJ'S Getaway!!!

Is it a rock group? Is it a bank robbery? No...it's Betty, Janice, Jackie and Juliet off to door county..hence the BJ's. What a blast.

We ate lunch in Sturgeon Bay at the Inn at Cedar Crossing. Excellent food! Did some shopping at Yonkers and other neat shops. Arrived in Sister Bay and made our lodging at the Rice's home. In the evening Jan made Chili. Later we learned the game The Settlers of Catan. We played it till Betty won..I mostly watched. (one of my homes was on the number 11..I know good choice.) Then we played Quiddler. Needless to say I enjoyed the second game much much better.

Shop till you drop was the plan for Friday. And we all did great...mainly looking. Supper was at a Fish Boil in Fish Creek. Heading back to Sister Bay, Jan asked us if we were up for another game of The Settlers of Catan. SILENCE ....HA!! But we did play more of Quiddler.

Laughed alot! Stayed up late! Just enjoyed being with each other. Good Memories!

Next time you see Betty or Janice..ask them is they know how to fill up at a gas station.

Fish Boil

Saturday was a busy eating day. First off, my sister Linda is here from France. We of course had breakfast than we headed for the Berean Church in Beloit for a ladies luncheon. (More Food). We got home and around 5:00 p.m. headed for Rock City for a fish boil. (And more food) No wonder we Americans are overweight. The fish was delicious to those of us who like it. Ann-Marie enjoyed the potatoes and dessert. It was a beautiful day and we ended it by having ice cream at an ice cream place in South Beloit..yes more food. Let's just call it FAT SATURDAY!!!

What's in a word?

Today I just finished reading my daughter's blog. She has a gift that I do not have..writing. The first word I had to look up was "flummoxed"..now the word "perplex" would have worked for me. Then she said my neice Michelle and my nephew Michael were "complacent"...at least that what I had told her when she was young. GREAT I thought now they both think I think they were IDIOTS!! (not really). I believe I used the word "complying" children when they lived at home. So I looked up both words. ..comply (to be courteous or obedient) complacent (self-satisfied) . But complacent can also mean "to please". At any rate they were GOOD kids. So I believe both Ann-Marie and I meant they did what they were told and Aaron really was the one to questions many things.
Words are the way we communicate and it can be a challenge at times.

"..a time to laugh,..."

I'm at present reading the book Presidential Humor by Liz Carpenter. Here are two quotes for your enjoyment.
"I have learned that only two things are necessary to keep one's wife happy," said LBJ. "First, let her think she's having her way. And second, let her have it."
The other quote.."If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one.?" Abraham Lincoln
